The work of Vladimír Souček, a native of Trutnov and a long-time resident of Horní Maršov, represents a unique visual language that combines poetics, surrealism and deep philosophical reflection on the essence of being. His artistic journey began with graphic training and long-term practice as an illustrator and photographer, but it was free-form painting that became his key means of expression.

Souček's work is characterized by a gradual detachment from the concrete figure and narrative towards an imaginative and symbolic conception of the image. While in the early period he works with the motif of the human body and his figurative style is characterized by fine brushstrokes and thoughtful composition, his later work leans towards abstraction. His works lose their firm anchorage in space and time, volumes dissolve and forms become ephemeral, as if in a state of constant transformation.

A typical feature of his paintings is the modeling of colors, which are layered, creating an impression of depth and inner light. The color scale changes in different creative periods, but always evokes a dreamy, melancholic or, conversely, lyrically exalted expression. In selected works, Souček uses subtle transitions between color areas, which give the paintings an ethereal character.

A specific element of his work is panel painting, which allows him to develop the variability of compositions. Many paintings are conceived as polyptychs, the individual parts of which can be arranged in various configurations according to the subjective perception of the viewer. Another key motif of Souček's work is the symbolism of gold, which he uses not only as an artistic element, but also as a bearer of spiritual and philosophical significance. Inspiration from medieval illumination and iconography is evident not only in the color composition itself, but also in the compositional solution of the pictorial surfaces, where the golden surface acts as a light accent emphasizing the transcendental plane of his works.

Souček creates a visual space that does not tell a fixed story, but opens up possibilities of perception in time. Through his paintings, he encourages the viewer to contemplate, to search for hidden connections.

The opening takes place on April 1st from 5:00 PM.
