BAROQUE TOP SUMMITS : The international formation Ensemble Berlin-Prague promises an extraordinary musical experience

The ensemble was formed in 2011 as a group of top German and Czech performers. Their goal is to shift the interpretation standard with an emphasis on stylistically informed interpretation and aesthetic purity. This now famous international formation will visit Uffa in Trutnov for the first time. With regard to the unique acoustic possibilities of the hall, listeners can look forward to a completely extraordinary musical experience.

So far, the group has performed on Czech stages at prestigious festivals such as Prague Spring, Moravian Podzim, Concentus Moraviae and the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival, Smetanova Litomyšl or in the FOK cycle. He has performed abroad, for example, in the subscription cycle of the Berlin Philharmonic, as part of the Easter festival in Baden-Baden, at the MDR Musiksommer festival or at Mitte Europa, where oboist Vilém Veverka performed as "Artist in Residence".

The unequivocal leitmotif for the creation of Ensemble Berlin-Prague was the idea of an ensemble performance of Jan Dismas Zelenka's cycle of trio sonatas for two oboes, bassoon and basso continuo, which are comparable to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos in terms of interpretative difficulty and volume of musical material (both cycles consist of exactly six pieces). . It is the ensemble recording of Jan Dismas Zelenka's Sonata for two oboes, bassoon and continuo (Supraphon 2018) that is rated by expert critics as a reference record of all time.

The genesis of the Ensemble Berlin-Prague idea dates back to 2005. That was when the Israeli bassoonist Mor Biron and Vilém Veverka met for the first time as fellows of the Orchestral Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. Under the leadership of the leading German oboist Dominik Wollenweber, they studied and performed some compositions by JD Zelenka and F. Couperin at the Berlin Philharmonic - the focus of their repertoire today. It is not without interest that Vilém Veverka performs in the ensemble with his former teacher Dominik Wollenweber, which is a logical outcome of the collaboration between the two performers. Ensemble Berlin-Prag consciously follows the performance of legendary artists Heinz Holliger, Maurice Bourgu and Klaus Thunemann.

Vilém Veverka - oboe
Dominik Wollenweber - oboe and English horn
Mor Biron - bassoon
