Silent Mail tells a true story about the courage of heroes, both big and small, set in the snowy Krkonoše Mountains in the winter of 1945. This thrilling winter adventure is based on the book by writer Jiří Stránský.
The family adventure film Silent Mail takes place in the snowy winter of the Giant Mountains at the end of the German occupation. A group of children rescue a downed French pilot they found in the forest. Their action resembles the principle of the well-known game of silent mail – the children pass the wounded pilot from one mountain village to another, similar to a secret message at school. But they play a risky game, because they are faced with deadly soldiers of the occupying army, they have to outwit traitors and informers and, last but not least, survive in the harsh conditions of the winter in the mountains. Their goal is a hospital several dozen kilometers away, where they can find safe help for Pierre.
Director Ján Sebechlebský reveals about the film and its story: "Why tell another story from the end of World War II today? Because it is a children's story about empathy, rebellion, joy, courage and hope at a time when the chance of survival sometimes depends only on luck. It is one of those stories where children conspiratorially stand against the world of adults in order to save someone."
