After a family tragedy, eleven-year-old Rea moves with her father to a newly inhabited planet, where her father joins the replication factory. There, Rea meets Andy and together they discover an underground world that people have no idea exists. When they find a lonely young of a rare creature, they decide to protect it from a greedy governor who wants to exploit the animal for his own profit. The search for the truth takes them into dangerous caves, where they discover that reckless waste management threatens an entire hidden ecosystem. The Secret of the Crystal Planet is a Czech animated family film that has the ambition to offer the domestic audience a full-fledged film experience comparable to foreign productions. It is based on a strong story, distinctive visual stylization and themes that are approached to children in a natural and non-violent way. The film draws on the experience of the creative team behind the successful projects Lichožrouti and Čtyřlístek, and continues the tradition of quality Czech animation aimed at a family audience. At the same time, it consciously tries to move this segment towards a modern, internationally competitive format. From the perspective of distributor Falcon, this is an exceptional title that combines domestic production with the ambitions of a large "event" release. The Secret of the Crystal Planet is not perceived as a small local project, but as a film that has the potential to become a significant event of the summer season. The story connects adventure with themes of ecology, responsibility for one's own actions, second chances and peaceful coexistence of different worlds. At the center is a strong female heroine who must cope with loss, stand up to authority and find the courage to protect what is right. The film emphasizes the power of family, friendship and the hope that even seemingly irreparable mistakes can be corrected.
