Passion, obsession with art and boundless determination to fulfill her own dreams. Photographer Marie Tomanová came to New York as an au pair and broke through in the extremely competitive environment of the local photography scene. Director Marie Dvořáková followed her with a camera in hand over the course of five years, creating the feature-length documentary The World Between Us. In it, the director captured Tomanová's first successes overseas and her steep path to the top, but also the photographer's strong personal and artistic partnership with art historian Thomas Beachdel, without whose support she probably would not have fully developed her talent. Thanks to the director's original approach and the unprecedented openness of the main actors, we briefly become part of the story of the American dream fulfilled. Both Maries are connected by the same experience of leaving for the USA, building a career in a new environment and searching for roots, identity and home.
