SpongeBob doesn't want to be just a little square sponge in pants anymore. He wants to prove to the world that he's a big boy. So he accepts the invitation of the legendary buccaneer, the Flying Dutchman, for a real pirate and, most importantly, movie adventure.
SpongeBob is an animated icon for several generations, entertaining them with his infectiously goofy lifestyle on the seabed, in Bikini Bottom. Practically every day of his life is completely special. At the beginning of this story, he finds out that he has had a day with a capital D. SpongeBob has grown so much overnight that he can officially call himself a big boy. What's more, he is now tall enough to go on the most terrifying attraction at the local amusement park. However, when he tells this to his employer, the restaurant owner Mr. Krabs, he laughs at him. When he was SpongeBob's age, he was already racing through the stormiest seas and experiencing all kinds of adventures in clashes with pirates and other sea creatures. Where does a roller coaster fit in? And big boy SpongeBob immediately wants to follow Mr. Krabs in his heroic career. And it is precisely for such a brave man that the ghost of the legendary pirate, the Flying Dutchman, awaits, who will take SpongeBob where no yellow mushroom has ever set foot before. The main thing is that he can return.
The director of the feature-length SpongeBob story, Derek Drymon, has been associated with the famous hero for almost thirty years as a co-writer of the original series. "Just like in the series, we want viewers of all ages to laugh from beginning to end. The film is no different. But thanks to the longer footage, we were able to really stretch the story and add scenes to it that you won't enjoy anywhere else but in the cinema," the director says of Pirate Adventure.
