Ruth (Lena Dunham), a newly divorced woman in her thirties, and her father Edek (Stephen Fry) set off from New York to 1990s Poland in search of family roots. While she tries to understand the painful fate of her Jewish ancestors, the open-minded and free-spirited Edek sabotages her efforts and does everything his own way. Against the background of gloomy post-revolutionary Polish cities, a colorful path opens, full of fun encounters, but also unspoken emotions and mutual understanding. Julie von Heinz's fragile film shows that even an apparently unsuccessful trip can lead to the discovery of unexpected treasures.
