Martin Hofmann plays tough private detective Lars, who takes on a simple but profitable deal from his best friend, which inevitably goes wrong. When there's a lot of money somewhere, there are plenty of interested parties who want to grab it for themselves.
The story of the film They Call Me Lars is a tribute to the "rough detective school", where Prague today has replaced Los Angeles in the thirties. But private eye Lars (Martin Hofmann) does not wear a suit, like the once legendary detective Phil Marlow. He is a tough guy in a leather jacket with a bald head and an overgrown beard. After he is kicked out of the police for absolute indiscipline, he fights his way through all sorts of things. He solves various problems for his clients or creates problems for someone else. It depends on the assignment. The only thing he has left from his service for the state is his former partner and friend Gold (David Švehlík).
And it is from Gold that he receives an offer for a lucrative deal. Aging real estate magnate Leo (Pavel Kikinčuk) needs some compromising material on his wife Dora (Simona Peková), who seems to be living like a saint. He would like to replace her with the attractive beauty Bonnie (Justýna Zedníková) and would not like to "go through the motions" during the divorce. And he doesn't care at all whether the evidence of his wife's infidelity is real or fake. Lars doesn't think such a job is much, but he lets himself be persuaded into it out of a sense of debt to Gold, who once saved his life. And this sets off a whirlwind of events filled with fake seduction, real deceptions, kidnappings and blackmail. Only at the end does it become clear who played what games with whom, who manages to transport the others and who finally escapes with only the skin of his hands.
The film They Call Me Lars is based on the successful book of the same name by writer Daniel Gris. He dedicated several other intricate stories to his hero, who likes to look at women's cleavage and the bottoms of various glasses.
