With the end of monogamy in a relationship comes excitement and passion, but also complex emotions. An independent romantic comedy about the unpredictability of love.
In this Finnish dramedy about the complexities of modern relationships and midlife crisis, which director Paula Korva made as her feature debut, love is a complicated issue. Jane (Iina Kuustonen) works for a travel agency, selling people dreamy adventures, but in her personal life she is firmly established and happy with her partner, actor Mikki (Riku Nieminen). Jane believes their love is rock solid – and is shocked when Mikki suggests an open relationship in an attempt to spice up their love life. Jane is initially resistant to the proposal, but is persuaded to attend a sex-positive party called Love Island. It starts as a simple experiment, but soon takes an unexpected turn: one of the couple falls in love with a third person. After a smooth start, a whirlwind of emotions erupts, forcing Jane to think hard about her relationship and life in general. FIRE FLASHES is a timely, witty, and honest story exploring the diversity of love and the complex yet liberating process of finding one's own path to happiness.
