The horror film Primate does the same thing to seemingly cute chimpanzees as Spielberg's Jaws did to sharks. You'll be scared of them. And a lot.
College student Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) returns home from school for the holidays and brings a group of friends with her. Who wouldn't want to go to a "sophisticated" hacienda by the sea, whose residents include the cute and friendly chimpanzee Ben. He became a member of the family thanks to Lucy's late mother, who taught him to communicate with people as part of her scientific work. But paradise can turn into hell with the snap of a finger. All it takes is an unfortunate coincidence, minor injuries, infections, and the peaceful ape turns into a dangerous monster. His intelligence and physical strength directly predispose him to play with the frightened human inhabitants of the house and get rid of them as soon as they stop entertaining him, regardless of the good relationships they have had so far. Primate belongs to the subgenre of classic horror killers, and the way the title character treats his victims is a testament to director Johannes Roberts' claim that Ben is the Freddy Krueger of chimpanzees.
