The film The Flood tells the story of 1980 Czechoslovakia. Mara is 15 years old and longs to become a pilot and leave her village life behind. However, her father Alexander, a Ruthenian peasant and widower, insists that she stay home and continue working on their native land. When the valley is flooded for the construction of the Starina reservoir, they both have to deal with the loss of their home and family heritage.

At the same time, they search for a way to reconcile with each other amidst the struggle between tradition, identity and the desire for freedom.
