Working in the household of Nina and Andrew Winchester is Millie's last chance to start over and close a dark chapter in her past. Little does she know that the secrets her new employers are hiding behind closed doors are much bigger than her own...
At first, she ignores the strange "coincidences" she encounters while cleaning their beautiful house every day, picking up their daughter from school, and preparing family dinners, and she tries to casually ignore them, as does Nina's strange behavior, her false accusations, and her approval ratings, which she has to face more and more often. After all, Millie has experienced much worse things in her life than the whims of a pampered mistress from a wealthy neighborhood, and she desperately needs this job. But Andrew seems increasingly distressed and lonely. Looking into his beautiful eyes, it's hard not to imagine what it would be like to be more than just a maid and become the new mistress of the house, especially since the current one is becoming more unbearable by the day and has even stopped taking care of herself. And it might not have to stop at just charming fantasies, because the Winchesters have no idea who Millie really is. They don't know what I'm capable of...
The thriller, which crosses the boundaries of the genre and playfully keeps the audience in suspense until the very end, was directed by Paul Feig (Dangerous Kindness, Spy, Women Alone). Millie's assistant is played by one of the most popular young actresses of today, Sydney Sweeney, who was attracted to her character "because she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in." According to her, the film is a mixture of twists, love, passion, darkness, and something more. The role of Nina is played by Golden Globe winner Amanda Seyfried. The central pair of heroines is completed by Brandon Sklenar as Andrew and Michele Morrone as the Italian gardener Enzo.
"The film is even better than my book, we managed to get everything that readers love about it into it. And the actors' performances are absolutely incredible," praises the film adaptation of The Handmaid, the author of the book, Freida McFadden, who also contributed to the screenplay.
