When twins Bill and Hal find a wind-up cymbal monkey in their attic that belonged to their father, they set off a series of horrific deaths and their paths diverge. Twenty-five years later, the evil monkey starts killing again, forcing the brothers to come together to put an end to the cursed toy's murderous rampage once and for all. Based on the short story by Stephen King, The Monkey is produced by James Wan (The Demon King, Saw: The Movie, Annabelle) and directed by Osgood Perkins (Longlegs). One of Stephen King's scariest stories, Monkey, has finally been adapted into a feature film. It was directed by James Wan and Osgood Perkins, who owe nothing to the master of horror and aspire to be the creators of the most anticipated horror film of the year. Just like the book of the same name, the film Monkey is full of violence and death. All the murders are unbearably bloody and unexpectedly absurd. Some are intentional, others are the result of unfortunate coincidence. You just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just like in life. The deadly tools (by far not the only ones) include a harpoon, a shotgun, a bowling ball, a traditional Japanese knife, a swimming pool, a surfboard, a lawnmower or a herd of wild horses. One thing is certain: everyone will die, which is a bit of a bummer. But at least it's a great spectacle! “It’s hyper-dark, but it’s also heart-warming and really funny,” says actor Theo James, star of The White Lotus and Gentlemen, who is being speculated as the new James Bond. In Monkey, he played both brothers who are trying to stop a murderous monster. The paradoxical approach to the story was determined by director Osgood Perkins’ life experience. His father, Anthony Perkins, who played the lead role of the mentally ill Norman Bates in the legendary Psycho, succumbed to the consequences of AIDS in 1992 after deciding to “cure his homosexuality.” His mother, photographer Berry Berenson, died as a passenger on a hijacked American Airlines flight on September 11, 2001. “I’ve seen people die in really crazy ways,” Perkins admits. “Everyone dies, whether there’s a monkey or not. "But what if you could do it in a fun way – to deal with the fact that we're all going to die? It's a crazy, surreal idea, but everyone just dies. It felt incredibly fitting to do it as a comedy," he adds.
