A glittering operetta comedy by the Waltz King Johann Strauss Jr.
Of Strauss’s sixteen operettas, A Night in Venice is, together with Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron, among the most frequently performed. It was the master’s only operetta not to premiere in Vienna, but in Berlin in October 1883. The entire story takes place over the course of a single night in the romantic atmosphere of the Venetian Carnival. The womanising Duke of Urbino is taught a lesson by Annina, a fisherman’s daughter, who is helped by her beloved — the Duke’s barber Caramello, a kind of operetta Figaro.
You can look forward to a unique evening full of humour, mistaken identities, and unforgettable melodies.
