A woman's gripping confession about her search for justice in a judicial system that tends to turn a blind eye to rape. Marie Štípková in the Czech premiere of the world-famous monodrama, accompanied by music by Markéta Ptáčníková.

 

The monodrama, which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play in 2022, brought an extraordinary acting opportunity for Maria Štípková. The gripping confession of defense attorney Tessa Ensler focuses on how much subjective experience can differ from what she considers the reality of justice.
This dynamic courtroom drama, reminiscent of a perfectly timed sports match, provides insight into the legal tactics and questioning techniques that often lead to the acquittal of men accused of rape. It is also the personal story of a woman who, despite knowing the rules of the game, suddenly loses faith in justice. At first glance, it is inspired by real-life rape cases that the law turned a blind eye to.

 

Švanda's Theatre presents a controversial, but very successful title abroad, in its Czech premiere a year after its first performance at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London. This is another title in the studio's repertoire that does not hesitate to comment on ambiguous and burning topics of contemporary social discourse.

 

The production contains sensitive content with themes of sex, violence and abuse, and therefore we do not recommend it for viewers under 15 years of age.
