A young ambitious economist moves to northern Bohemia for work. Here he meets the sons of the best meth brewer Grundza and later Grundza himself, the head of the family and a caring father. The unconventional group combines progressive economic practices with street knowledge and takes the family business to a whole new level. The film On the Plate was made by director Marty Pohl, also known as the controversial rapper Řezník or as the author of Márty's Frků.
The film On a Plate is a unique take on the story of Marek, who enters life after completing his university studies. He experiences many novel adventures, only to eventually come to the realization that family and friendship are the most important things. He is given a very ambitious project at work, but he has unexpected difficulties in his personal life. After he finds a backpack in the hallway of his house and tries to return it honestly, he is detained by an inspector. However, the policeman does not put him in prison, but forces him to cooperate. Marek therefore has to curry favor with the three Grundz brothers, who are brewing methamphetamine in the apartment one floor below. Marek makes full use of his knowledge from the University of Economics, Grundz, the head of the family, soon joins the group, and the drug trade is just flourishing. Living with his newly acquired friends brings a number of humorous but also exciting moments. The viewer will not only be captivated by the plot, but will also learn a number of interesting facts from recent and more distant history.
"For the greatest authenticity, we shot part of the film in the Ruzyně Prison, which was bursting with inspiration. All audio from this location is authentic, so any sound of an argument, wailing, or whipping comes from the bowels of this godforsaken place," adds Marty Pohl about the filming.
"It's truly noble entertainment," said Milan Šteindler after reading the script.
Marty Pohl gained the attention of cinema audiences with the successful comedies Party Hard and Party Harder: Summer Massacre. Pohl is also the author of a series of short films that unite the universe of absurd humor full of picturesque characters under the banner of ZNK, or the film universe Life is Not Beautiful. The new film On the Plate follows this world of ZNK.
