Lia, a retired teacher, promised before her sister's death that she would find her niece Tekla, who was disowned by her family because of her trans identity. Together with her young neighbor Achim, she sets off for Istanbul, where Tekla allegedly ran away. Istanbul plays a key role in the film. Its winding streets, hidden neighborhoods, and quirky inhabitants offer hope not only for finding Tekla, but also for new friendships, horizons, and values. The opening film of the Berlin Panorama section has rightly become one of the most popular pieces of this year's Berlinale. Swedish director Levan Akin handles difficult topics in a very human way, with empathy and humor, and the story can touch each of us.
