MIKI is the story of a man who returns from abroad in the 1990s to his native country, which is rapidly changing at the time and in which new great opportunities are opening up in the field of organized crime as well. Miki, a bus driver by profession, gradually discovers and activates his abilities to build one of the largest and most feared mafia groups in the country. The film MIKI is inspired by real events from the life of former Slovak underworld boss Mikuláš Černák. He was arrested for economic offenses for the first time in 1997, after five years he was released on parole, but in 2003 he was arrested again in Prague by the intervention unit of the Czech police, also on suspicion of being connected to Russian-speaking organized crime. In court, he eventually confessed to committing 14 murders. Director Jakub Kroner reminds us that the film is not only about the main character. It brings an image of a time that is still traumatizing to this day. He perceives that the subject of the film arouses great interest and is the subject of serious social discussions. "That's also why I felt it was very important how we make this film," says Kroner, and screenwriter Miro Šifra adds: "I'm fully aware that I've written a film about a man who has a hand in the death of dozens of people. However, the script does not build a cult of his personality, nor does it excuse his actions."
