Sculptor Michal Janiga works with a technologically demanding material - stone. He works it into a simplified minimalist morphology, while his creations are always on a monumental scale. For him, the material is a repository carrying layered information, primarily as an idea of shape. In the years 2011 - 2017, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, School of Figurative Sculpture and Medals (prof. Jan Hendrych, later doc. Vojtěch Míča). In 2016, he completed an internship at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, Scuola di Scultura in Italy (Prof. Francesco Cremoni, Prof. Pier Giorgio Balocchi). He lives and creates in Prague and alternately in the village of Pružina in the Strážovské vrchy in Slovakia, where he has native roots.
