First Lady, top economist, minister's wife in turbulent times and last but not least, caring mother and grandmother. These are just some of Livia Klausová's many life roles. The film crew closely mapped her career and personal dramas, which she went through alongside her husband. From the formation of Czechoslovak capitalism at the family table, through visits by world leaders, to the post of ambassador. The kind portrait of an exceptional woman reveals her view of the world, which is dominated above all by humanity and a sense of protection for the weak.
The documentary film offers a unique look into the private life of former First Lady Livia Klausová. It shows how fundamental social moments in our country influenced her life alongside a top politician and how she herself somewhat inconspicuously influenced decisions that changed the face of our country. With her own grace, she restored the faded luster to the residences of Czech presidents. She sacrificed her own career to later revive it with an important diplomatic function. She won the hearts of the people of the Czech Republic with her charitable projects.
"It was amazing to me that when my husband started, there was a huge euphoria in our country and those people wrote to the president and prime minister about what should be done and how it should be done and how they were doing. And I worked in the ombudsman's office before the ombudsman was created. And I was very happy about that," says Livia Klausová. You will also learn what she stands for in her husband's opinions and when she advised him differently. Or stories from state visits that should never have been published.
In addition to the joys and duties of public office, the film also reveals the family background of the former first lady marked by a tragic event. Her childhood nestled between the picturesque Slovak Liptov and the arcades of Prague's Vinohrady, as well as moments of concern for her son shortly after his birth.
