Lee Miller (Kate Winslet) began her career as a prominent model, moving in the leading fashion circles of Paris and New York. In 1938, he spends his vacation in the sunny south of France with his closest friends from artistic circles. She now concentrates exclusively on her own work as a photographer. Her fateful love is the English art dealer, Roland Penrose (Alexander Skarsgard). The threat of war hangs in the air, and almost overnight, everything in their daily lives changes completely. After moving to London, Lee refuses to do what women are expected to do during the war. Instead, she decides to defy the patriarchy and do the impossible. She herself goes to the front in Europe. As a war correspondent and photographer for Vogue magazine, she finds herself on the front lines of the most brutal battles of the Second World War. Her deep understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of horrific crimes enables her to create images that capture both fragility and unyielding fury and the human capacity to survive, exist, fight, defend and live. Lee is often seen as a role model and muse, but her inner strength, tenacity, passion for life and courage to take risks have helped her create hauntingly urgent images that will be indelibly etched in history. The film captures not only her bravery in documenting the liberation of Paris, crossing the Rhine, or arriving at the Dachau concentration camp, but also her inner struggle with the terrible consequences she took away from these experiences. Lee: Frontline Photographer is a film about courage, loss and the search for one's identity. It is the story of a woman who constantly asked herself questions about the meaning of her life, the price of fame and what it means to be a witness to history. With her film, experienced director Ellen Kuras shows not only history, but also the inner world of a strong woman who faced the dark side of humanity.
