One match, many stories. A professor of Czech studies who loves football. A father and his daughter's boyfriend. A football referee and an anniversary match. A singer and a Prague councilwoman in love. A commentator and expert in the studio or a young football talent. In the star-studded comedy based on the screenplay by Petr Koleček, several stories play out, which gradually connect and culminate in a grand finale right in the stadium during an important match. The title of the film refers to the football league hit, but in reality, The Magic of the Derby is mainly about love and passion, which life brings with it in various forms. More than the goals that are scored in a match, The Magic of the Derby is about the chances that are converted, the more or less successful tricks and fouls in everyday life. And most of all, it is about the emotions that cannot be avoided. The events on the pitch, in the stands, in the commentary box or in the locker rooms enter the lives of all of us, whether we like it or not, and one match can connect many stories. And it doesn't matter at all whether you are a referee, a professor of Czech studies, a caring father, a singer of one hit, a councillor in love, a sports commentator, a first-league veteran or you are just dreaming of a great career. They all love someone or something and experience the important match of the season in a completely different way. "The stadium is probably the only place where absolutely everyone meets. The pretty and the ugly, the rich and the poor, the bad and the good, and last but not least, girls and boys. And football can enter their lives. It is a passion. And passion changes lives. And I am convinced that the spectators will also be moved and will understand a little more that they actually look at life the same way with the beast they have next to them," says the film's director Petr Kolečko. The film was shot in a number of locations in Prague and Ostrava, and in addition to the star-studded cast, it also featured two thousand volunteers who created a genuine match atmosphere in the stadium stands. The magic of the derby was filmed by a pair of directors Petr Kolečko and Vladimír Skórka. While Kolečko's humor is known to viewers from the comedies Padesátka, Okresní přebor, Most or Přes prsty, Skórka is responsible for, among other things, the YouTube viral sKORO NA mizine, and together they are signed to the hockey series hit Lajna. Petr Kolečko also has two Czech Lions to his credit for the series Most! and the film Masaryk.
