Synopsis:
The year is 1975, Cologne. The film is inspired by the true story of eighteen-year-old Vera Brandes (Mala Emde), a courageous rebel who is determined to make her dream come true. Despite the opposition of her conservative parents, she risks everything. She single-handedly books the prestigious Cologne Opera to organize the concert of her dreams. In January 1975, she brings jazz genius Keith Jarrett (John Magaro) to the stage. Despite the lack of quality musical equipment, the artist is ready to perform. And Vera will not give up on her dream.
Little does he know that the performance, which was in danger of total failure throughout the evening, will become legendary. Jarrett's hour-long improvisation, created on a malfunctioning instrument, becomes the best-selling jazz solo album in history.
The recording, entitled “The Köln Concert,” is indelibly inscribed in history and is often called one of the most essential works of art of the 20th century. With over four million copies sold and its iconic white cover, it remains the most famous jazz solo album and the best-selling piano recording of all time.
Köln 75: Concert of the Century is not “just” a film about music — it is a testament to the courage, passion, and culture that shaped legends.
