Joe Lovano “Trio Tapestry” feat. Marilyn Crispell & Carmen Castaldi (USA)

Joe Lovano , winner of a Grammy and a large number of other awards, composer, producer and one of the most important saxophonists of today. He will be joined by pianist Marilyn Crispell and drummer Carmen Castaldi with the Trio Tapestry project at Jazzinc. As an important representative of modern jazz, Lovano continues the legacy of great musicians of the 1950s and 1960s, such as Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane, but at the same time contributes to it with a very unique perspective on saxophone playing, improvisation, composition and overall the concept of the jazz genre in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
After completing his studies at Berklee College of Music, Joe began working with Jack McDuff, Dr. Lonnie Smith and also played in Woody Herman's orchestra for three years before moving to New York. During his career he collaborated with many other leading musicians, including Paul Motian, John Zorn, George Mraz, Charlie Haden, McCoy Tyner, Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell, Branford Marsalis, Jim Hall, or John Scofield. His wife is jazz singer Judi Silvano.

Marilyn Crispell is an American jazz pianist and composer. Scott Yanow described her as "a strong player ... who has her own way of using space ... She is at the top of her game." Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote, "Hearing Marilyn Crispell play solo piano is like watching an active volcano...She is one of the few pianists who can rise to the challenge of free jazz." In addition to her extensive work as a soloist or bandleader, she is also known as a longtime member of saxophonist Anthony Braxton's quartet in the 1980s and 1990s. She was a member of the Reggie Workman Ensemble for ten years, worked in Barry Guy's New Orchestra and guested in his London Jazz Composers Orchestra. She has worked in the Henry Grimes Trio, Tiszigi Munoz Ensemble and Quartet Noir (with Urs Leimgruber, Fritz Hauser and Joelle Leandre). She toured and recorded with Anders Jormin's Borto Quintet and Time Jungle with trumpeter and composer Gunhild Seim.

Carmen Castaldi , a gifted jazz drummer from Cleveland, emerged in the 1970s and was a sought-after bandmate for decades, working on the West Coast with artists such as Joe Lovano, Frank Strazzeri, and Keely Smith. In 2019, he teamed up with Lovan and pianist Marilyn Crispell in the Tapestry Trio.

Joe Lovano is considered one of the greatest living saxophonists. In addition to unrestrained improvisations, he is also a master of emotions and it must be said that his saxophone does not just play, but sings.
