Alf Carlsson/Jiří Kotača Quartet is a joint project of Swedish guitarist Alf Carlsson and Czech trumpeter Jiří Kotača. These two award-winning musicians were brought together by their studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and six months after their return to their native countries, Alfa's planned trip to the Czech Republic, which eventually became a short string and then a regular band. The quartet released their second album Our Stories in 2024, which Musicserver wrote that "it has stepped into the best jazz albums of 2024". And as leading music journalist Tomáš S. Polívka writes: "The stories of Alf Carlsson and Jiří Kotača were worth the wait." Their music mixes everything they love, i.e. influences of lyrical Scandinavian music and modern jazz with a pinch of R'n'B, hip hop, pop and rock. All of this, colored by live electronics, creates a unique sound combination of this band, which emphasizes sonic diversity and strong melodies. Alf Carlsson composed music for the Nobel Peace Prize and Jiří Kotača is a nominated artist for the Anděl Prize and the holder of the Czech Jazz Harvest 2020 award. The band's duo was complemented by the most sought-after Slovak jazzmen of the young generation - Peter Korman on double bass/bass guitar and Kristián Kuruc on drums. The band's members themselves are among the awarded musicians of the young generation in their countries. The band has played dozens of concerts at jazz festivals and in clubs in Sweden, Bulgaria, Austria, Italy, Germany, Greece, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
