When the ever-hungry tutor William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) meets the wild freethinker Agnes (Jessie Buckley), a proverbial love affair is born, which results in the birth of three children. He will give the world an unforgettable story and himself and his wife a cure for grief and suffering. Several notable names contributed to the creation of the film Hamnet. It began with the book of the same name by writer Maggie O'Farrell, which became one of the bestsellers of 2020. Legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes joined forces as producers for its adaptation, and the most important role was given to Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (The Land of the Nomads). "As I was reading, the film images were jumping out at me, which was a clear signal for me. I also fell in love with the story immediately. I like stories that are very universal, but at the same time exceptional. And Hamnet is exactly that," says the director.
