The gripping biography of Swedish politician and statesman Dag Hammarskjöld was nominated for eight Swedish Guldbagge film awards. Director Per Fly, who has already made several biographies and thrillers, once again delivers a masterful work with suspense and a combination of factual and fictional narration. In 1961, the Cold War is boiling and the political and social atmosphere could not be more tense. The unyielding Hammarskjöld has been considered a respected diplomat for several years, who, thanks to the principles of preventive diplomacy, was able to prevent several conflicts and correct the broken relations between East and West. The plot of the film begins when, as Secretary-General of the UN, he sets himself the most challenging goal yet - to establish peace in the decolonizing African countries. At the same time, however, he begins to realize the enormous work commitment that is costing him his personal life. His life's mission inevitably begins to collide with his personal happiness. A turning point for him is an operation in Congo, where UN personnel are murdered. He immediately sets out on a journey of peace. This gripping historical drama offers a portrait of the man who, according to John F. Kennedy, was the greatest statesman of the last century. He is portrayed in a dedicated manner by Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt.
