Tradition and innovation collide in this pop feminist film about a quartet of musical outcasts. It is the late 18th century and Teresa (derisively nicknamed “The Mute”) is a quiet, loud-mouthed young lady working as a maid at a dilapidated Catholic music institute for girls. As excited rumors of the impending visit of the new Pope Pius VII spread through the halls of the institute and the local maestro struggles with a new piece for orchestra, Teresa makes a major discovery in the form of a piano that will change the course of her and her peers’ lives. Debuting director Margherita Vicario, who has experience with her own original music, has created an energetic, unpretentious musical that beats to remixed Vivaldi beats, charting a boldly retold lost history of female composers and artists. GLORIA!, awarded at the Italian Golden Globes for Best Original Score and Best Debut, will make you clap and sway to the rhythm of catchy melodies.
