Lucius (Paul Mescal), grandson of the emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of the "first" gladiator Maximus, lives in secret in one of the last free cities in North Africa. However, the expanding Roman Empire will not leave him alone. All it takes is one massive attack by the fleet led by General Acacio (Pedro Pascal) and the prosperous city turns into ruins and the free Lucius into a nameless slave. The lanky captive is noticed by the organizer of gladiator matches Macrinus (Denzel Washington), who wants to make him the star of the Roman Colosseum (before he is replaced by someone more capable). However, gladiatorial games are not the main game that Marcinus plays. Realizing the weakness of an empire ruled by two mad emperors, Caracalla and Geta, the ingenious strategist plays a risky game in which a gladiator and the rightful heir to the Roman throne, Lucius, his mother Lucilla (Connie Nielsen, reprising her role from the first part) fight on an imaginary chessboard. and General Acacius, her husband and the man her son hates to death for ruining his life. A clash is approaching, in which blood will flow not only through the Colosseum, but also through the streets of Rome. Legendary director Ridley Scott brings the second Gladiator to theaters almost 25 years after the landmark film with Russell Crowe. Almost 450,000 viewers saw it in Czech cinemas. The director admits that coming up with a sequel after such a long time may seem suspicious. "At the same time, it was so simple and logical. I knew who survived, who would lead you through the story, and where they would go in it,” he says. Scott considers Gladiator II to be his best film ever. "I say this to scare the competition. But no, he's really good," he adds.
