Nora (Renate Reinsve) reunites with her father after years. The charismatic and once famous director Gustav (Stellan Skarsgard) has written the lead role for her in a film that is supposed to be the culmination of his career. When Nora refuses to cooperate, he casts the eager Hollywood actress Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning) in her place. A series of funny and painfully honest encounters begins, during which Nora and her sister Agnes come to terms with complicated family relationships and the unexpected presence of an American star. Joachim Trier returned to Cannes after the success of the film with a sensitive comedy-drama, which was awarded the Grand Prize by the jury.
