The Running Man is a worldwide popular reality show with a fabulous prize for the winner. The winner doesn't have to know anything special, just survive until the end. And that's practically impossible. Director Edgar Wright serves up an action sci-fi cocktail based on Stephen King's original.
The film The Running Man takes place in a near-future world where the eponymous television competition is one of the highlights of entertainment. Its participants must survive in front of the cameras, under the watchful eye of millions of viewers, for thirty days, during which they are pursued not only by professional killers, but also by their fellow citizens, who can earn extra money by eliminating them. As the number of players decreases, the potential reward for the absolute winner increases. For Ben Richards (Glen Powell), the money from the prize is the only motivation for him to join the competition. If you didn't have the money to treat your seriously ill daughter, you would do even greater crazy things. The cynical producer of the show, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), is happy that a seemingly normal guy, a nice guy with healthy motivation, who will be cheered on by a large part of the audience, has joined his game until he meets a violent death. Although Ben is definitely not one of the favorites of the game, he manages to evade his pursuers for a worryingly long time. So long that it begins to threaten not only the plans of those who control this game, but also the entire system. The elimination of one inconvenient "running man" is no longer just the goal of one reality show, but the entire reality in which everyone lives.
Glen Powell, the actor who plays the lead, confirms that he has probably never experienced a more demanding shoot, especially since he shot many of the action scenes himself. That is why he consulted with Tom Cruise, whom he met while filming the hit Top Gun: Maverick. "Don't take unnecessary risks. Try to make everything you do benefit the film. What's the point of jumping off an exploding bridge if it looks bad on camera? That's probably the most important piece of advice Tom gave me," says the actor.
