The British-born globetrotter lives in Cape Town and now finds inspiration in Cairo. Although he is a self-taught drummer (!!), his 2020 debut album was named one of the best jazz albums of the year by The New York Times.
In December 2020, Asher Gmadze traveled to Cairo, Egypt, where he assembled a quintet of the best improvisers living there. This new project, called Another Time Ensemble, features: Maurice Louca on synthesizers (The Dwarfs of East Agouza (Rachot 2023), Elephantine, Northern Spy Recs), Adham Zidan on bass (The Invisible Hands, Baskot Lel Baltageyya), Chérif El-Masri on guitar (Eskenderella, Dimension Machine) and Alan Bishop on alto saxophone (The Invisible Hands, Sun City Girls, Sublime Frequencies). It is with this lineup that Asher Gamedze is coming to Jazzinec and the Czech Republic for the first time.
