Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant but deeply introverted CIA codebreaker working in a basement office at Langley headquarters whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London. When his superiors refuse to act, he takes matters into his own hands and embarks on a dangerous journey around the world to track down the culprits, using his intelligence as his best weapon to evade his pursuers and exact revenge.
